How to track rent and bills on iPhone

Write the rent amount, pick a monthly schedule, and save the rule. When the date has passed, SimpleSpend posts the charge the next time you open the app. You do not have to remember to log it by hand every month.

What belongs on a recurring bill

Rent, the phone plan, insurance, and a gym membership are the usual set. They have a known amount and a date you can name. Put those on a schedule. Groceries and coffee stay as one-off entries.

If an amount moves a little each month, still use a rule with the typical number, then edit that month when the statement arrives. The point is not to guess the future to the cent. It is to stop forgetting the bill exists.

Set the schedule once

In SimpleSpend, create the first charge as you would any expense: amount, category, account. Then turn on a repeating schedule: daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or a custom gap. That first save is also the first occurrence, so you do not log rent twice for the same month.

The rule lives on one ledger. Keep household bills in the everyday book, and travel deposits in the travel book, so totals stay readable.

When the charge actually appears

SimpleSpend does not write the next rent line at midnight in the background. It checks due rules when you open the app. If you were away for a week, it fills in the days you missed, one calendar day at a time.

That matches how a paper register works: the book updates when you sit down with it. If you need the row in the list today, open the app once after the due date.

Does rent post if I do not open the app?

No. SimpleSpend adds due recurring charges the next time you open the app, including days you missed.

Can I use a custom interval, not only monthly?

Yes. Daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or a gap you choose, such as every 4 weeks.
